Please try harder next time

Chief Justice John Roberts suffered a seizure at his summer home in Maine on Monday, causing a fall that resulted in minor scrapes, Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said.

He will remain in a hospital in Maine overnight.

Steve Gilliard died after a long fight with illness. His cantankerous energy was always a welcome part of my reading day. He was 41.

Goodbye Steve, you will be missed.

Falwell dies at age 73

The Rev. Jerry Falwell has died, a Liberty University executive said Tuesday. He was 73.

Earlier, the executive said Falwell was hospitalized in “gravely serious” condition after being found unconscious in his office.

Toodles, fucker. It may have happened 73 years too late, but at least it finally happened. He was a monster. A vile, evil, ignorant little turd of a “man.” The world is better off without him.

More content, less vitriol: Carpetbagger

Update: coming as no surprise, McCain is the first to offer his pandering to a new christianist nutjob condolences

Saddam Hussein hanged

December 29th, 2006 No comments

It’s official

Saddam Hussein was executed by hanging shortly before 6 a.m. (10:00 p.m. EST) on Saturday, U.S.-backed Iraqi television station Al Hurra and Arabic satellite channel Arabiya said.

There’s nothing like a kangaroo court in an illegitimate and unjust legal system executing a former dictator in secret to really bring home my country’s support of the Rule of Law and security in the righteousness of our actions.

Imagine how much weaker we would have looked had we sent Saddam to the International Crime tribunal, presented actual evidence in an impartial court, and then acted on that courts judgment. I sure am glad we didn’t go that option. Non sureties are for wimps.

Ken Lay’s death removes verdict against him

A U.S. judge on Tuesday threw out the conspiracy and fraud convictions of Enron Corp. founder Ken Lay because of his July 5 death.

U.S. District Judge Sim Lake said because Lay could no longer pursue appeal of a jury’s guilty verdict last May, the law requires the convictions be voided.

The decision, in response to a request from lawyers for Lay’s estate, overruled objections from U.S. prosecutors and a man who said he was victimized by Enron’s 2001 collapse.

You know, I don’t really see why you need to be alive to appeal a conviction. To defend from accusations of one, sure, but during the appeals process? They’re just deciding matters already heard in court… what need for a warm body, then?

Now, history will not write “convicted felon” next to Ken Lay’s name when that assclown is mentioned. Even in death, he cheats the system. Bastard.

Hmm…

Is it wrong to think that the most interesting news one hears upon emerging from a 2-week coccoon is that the Crocodile Hunter was killed by a stingray barb that pierced his chest and punctured his heart?

From the amount of news coverage, I think he may have been more popular than Jesus.

The deadest guy in the room

INT. – MORNING
A phone is ringing. B answers.

B

Hello?

SATAN
Hi, B. This is Satan. Is Kenny boy around? It’s time for him to come home.

SCENE.

Kenneth Lay, who rose from a poor preacher’s son to become a millionaire before being convicted of corporate fraud, died early Wednesday in Aspen, Colo., a family spokeswoman said.

Lay, 64, was awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of conspiracy and fraud in the Enron trial in May.

Few people have been responsible for more pain to more people in recent decades than Ken Lay. Fitting, then, that he’s a preacher’s son. Also fitting that he was one of Bush’s biggest and earliest supporters.

“Apparently, his heart simply gave out,” said Lay’s pastor, Dr. Steve Wende of Houston’s First United Methodist Church.

Obviously, this is a lie as he had no heart.
Obviously, this was a cabalesque hit, enacted by the same Clintonista hitmen who whacked Vince Foster.

If there is a Heaven, Lay is not there.
If there are souls, Lay’s was deficient.
If there is reincarnation, he will come back as a worm. Or possibly a leech, but I think that would just reinforce his cycle of lifetimes rather than break him out of his rut.

To the extent that his family and friends miss him, my condolences. To the man himself… good riddance. He was an immoral narcissist, focused on breaking whatever rules he needed to break in order to best benefit himself. He is an exemplar of what I consider to be inhuman. He enriched himself while ensuring that hard working blue collar workers now have to live with their children and have no retirement funds.

Even in dying he cheated the system by never paying for his crimes, crimes for which he never felt sorry, only caught.

And I was so looking forward to seeing him in penitentiary orange.

Update: Alternatively, it’s all a hoax (h/t to Chartoo in the comments)
