Politics may be the death of me yet
Death… or bankruptcy, anyway. One or the other.
While trying to figure out how I could monetize my “$100 million and climbing” HSX brilliance, I found Intrade (AKA Tradesports and some others). Holy cow is this awesome. Actual money on politics and news events. Of course, given my recent successful predictions (and GOP shenanigans), this is could just be an even easier way to lose money than Lotto. Also, I have no money. But the idea’s fun.
Here’s a snapshot of some of the things you can trade in (I don’t know precisely what will come up; it’s a dynamically generated frame):
And their banner advertisement looks something like this:
Yet another thing that’s probably more Chartoo’s forte than mine, but I’m kind of excited about day trading in the presidential aspirations of Saint Rudy. Theoretically, of course. I would never engage in any sort of illegal activity like online gambling (non-Lotto and non-casino division, particularly laws attached as riders by cat killer Frist to port security bills) and then talk about it here on the interweb thingy. I’d have to be pretty stupid to do that now, wouldn’t I?
I know. I need to get out more.
You give me too much credit, I’ve been struggling with my own demons, trading wise, as it were.
This article sums it up rather well.
Need to concentrate on trading methodology, not how much I’m winning or losing…..
Considering your Fantasy track record I figure you’ll do well, providing, of course, you focus on your trading system not how much you’re making!

I’ve been doing politics all day. Thinking I bet wrong on VA Senate as I think the Allen goons are going to pull it out. Grr. I think I’m up like $1.00 for the day. Woo.
Still, if Lamont wins, it’ll be something like +$30 on a $2 bet. Heh. And by “dollars” I mean “points” and by “bet” I mean “prediction.”
Some dude’s offering 10 shares of Hoffman @15 for the Cy Young. Easy money on the short there.
Interesting, Koffman’s a short for the Cy Young, he’s giving away money.
Did you take the trade?
Who do you think will get the Cy Young for the National League? I know there’s others but Carpenter comes to mind for the Cy.
And, hey, maybe it’s only a buck, but your up for the day, that’s always good!

Webb, Carpenter, or Oswalt. Webb’s probably the most deserving, but I have no idea who’s going to get it.
Didn’t take the trade, since I didn’t feel like locking up $8.50 (the max I could lose) for another week when I can make money elsewhere that’ll be decided tomorrow. Probably going to short the Dem 24.5 House seat pickup, which is at 82 or so right now.
Check that, it’s the 19.5 seat that’s at 80. The 24.5 one is at 42. Much different. Probably short the Bush approval ratings >40% one, though. No way he goes that high.
Still… I hate shorting generally. In the real world you’ve got waaaay more downside than up, typically. C’mon insider trading!
